OLN’s Insurance Practice Group has direct experience of the legal, regulatory and practical challenges facing insurers and reinsurers in Hong Kong and throughout the Asia region.
We have particular expertise in areas of insurance regulation, dealing with regulators, applications for authorization as insurers or intermediaries plus the review and drafting of contractual documentation relating to insurance, reinsurance activities and intermediaries.
We also have experience advising on disputes over coverage for claims under both life and general insurance policies, and with support from OLN’s Dispute Resolution Group, are well placed to represent clients in all aspects of insurance litigation.
Gordon Oldham is the founder and senior partner of OLN. Gordon is involved in commercial work drawing on his experience of having been engaged as a principal in a number of businesses in Hong Kong and Asia. His philosophy in legal work is to give practical legal solutions to clients, to work hand-in-hand with them in their business development and so to offer a more rounded and practical approach to solve business problems. Gordon’s work involves international corporate structuring, corporate finance, joint ventures as well as dispute resolution in commercial and corporate scenarios. Gordon has acquired extensive experience in the hospitality, publishing and jewellery industries and a large amount of his time is involved in the development of several charitable organizations both in Hong Kong and Asia.
Greg Crichton is well versed in developments in Asia’s insurance and corporate sectors from both a competitive and regulatory perspective. Prior to joining OLN, he was a Director, EVP and General Counsel at American International Assurance (AIA) where he was responsible for coverage of Asia Pacific Region ex Japan, a member of AIA Board Audit Committee as well as one of AIG’s global ‘core employees’ participating in various long-term retention plans of the group and sitting on many AIG boards. He was President Commissioner of a major Indonesian life insurer, and remains a Board member and advisor to international insurers. Greg was previously a Member of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Board of Review.
Greg currently also serves as an independent non-executive director and audit committee member of a Hong Kong listed company.
Jonathan Lam was trained at OLN and admitted as a solicitor in 2014. He has advised and acted in a number of high-profile cases in the High Court and the Court of Appeal involving shareholders’ disputes, debt recovery, civil fraud, insolvency and derivative action. Jonathan has succeeded in a wide spectrum of civil applications including Mareva/freezing injunctions, disclosure orders, default judgment and summary judgment. Jonathan obtained his LLB. degree (Hons) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Jonathan is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Yan Chu possesses comprehensive expertise in insurance litigation with a specialization in personal injury and insurance litigation. This includes providing guidance on policy disputes and interpretation, as well as defending claims related to personal injury, employees’ compensation, contractors’ all risks, motor liability, and public liability. Before joining OLN, Yan served as a Consultant at a highly regarded multinational law firm in Hong Kong. During her tenure, she offered counsel and representation to insurers, construction engineering and management firms, banking and financial institutions, and public utility companies dealing with substantial and delicate loss claims.
