Biography
Alfred was admitted as a Solicitor in Hong Kong in 2000 and works in our Dispute Resolution Group. He was made a Partner in 2007.
Alfred qualified as a Solicitor in Hong Kong in 2000 and is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team.
Alfred advises clients on both civil and criminal litigation. He has a particular strength in general commercial litigation, including commercial fraud, theft, handling proceeds obtained from indictable offences, asset dissipation, breach of trust and confidence, breach of fiduciary duties by directors or employees and assets tracing.
Alfred is routinely involved in applications to obtain urgent injunctive relief to prevent worldwide asset dissipation and destruction of evidence. Alfred strategises legal solutions with the synergy of his extensive civil and criminal experiences.
Alfred obtained his LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Hong Kong and holds an LL.M. in Maritime Law from the University of London.
Alfred is a Mediator accredited by CEDR and the Law Society of Hong Kong, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Recent Cases:
- Acting for a shareholder in petitioning for the winding-up of a listed company in Hong Kong based on its inability to pay its debt, and applying for the appointment of provisional liquidators to take over to management of the company, whilst concurrently defending claims by the company for breach of warranties and misrepresentation. Applying for discharge of injunctions against client that prohibited him from disposing of his shares and/or exercising his rights in respect of those shares.
- Acted for a group of overseas victims of a fraud scheme to recover monies deposited in a Hong Kong bank account by obtaining a Mareva Injunction (Freezing Order) over said account and competing their claim against other victims’ claims in the same scheme.
- Obtained a Mareva Injunction Order for a French client against his former local business partner who surreptitiously established his own company in competition and diverted business to this company.
- Acting for one of Hong Kong’s most popular internet forums in defending claims by two of the most widely-circulated newspapers in Hong Kong for comments made on the same and their founders by internet user on the forum based on innocent dissemination.
- Assisted the buyer of a building in Vietnam in claiming against the seller of the same for breach of warranty agreement by failing to disclose the same during due diligence process in an ICC arbitration in Hong Kong.
- Acted for a distributor of a top luxury fashion brand against the owner of the brand for breach of exclusive distribution agreement by allowing an international travel retail department store to carry its products in an UNCITRAL arbitration in Hong Kong.
